Menstrual Hygiene Day 2021

Image
May 28th, 2021 is Menstrual Hygiene Day. We visited GGSS Gandun Albasa, Municipal LGA  of Kano State to raise awareness on menstrual hygiene and demonstrate how to make reusable sanitary pads.  Our health personnel talk to the girls about hygiene, common misconceptions and debunked some of the menstrual myths.  She also highlight on douching, infection, seeking for medical care and opening up to mothers/guardians for things they don't understand. She also indulged a Q&A with them.  Our volunteer Tailor conducted a practical session on how to sew reusable sanitary pads using cardboard and materials. #menstrualHygieneDay2021

Violence against Women

Image
During this existential violence against women, our call is to Women to be each other's keepers. Men won't do that. For context: During the holy Ramadan, girls and ladies came up with a challenge to wear Abaya during Eid. Ever since then, scholars (who are all men) and other men came out to debunk the idea thereby subjecting women who wore gowns to harrasment and violence on the streets.  This recent harassment of a female university student made rounds on social media, we are glad that the institution took action and hope it serve as a deterrent.

International Day to End Fistula 2021

Image
On the #InternationalDaytoEndFistula, it is a reminder to all of us that we can end Fistula together.  We have to keep working together for all the Women out there suffering with the disease. In Northern Nigeria, prolonged labor and child marriage are the main causes of Vesico-Vaginal Fistula. Therefore, we have to do everything we can to help raise awareness and provide support to the patients of the disease.  Some of these patients are shunned away by family, lack of financial support to seek for treatment and sometimes abandoned by their husbands.
