Training Manual on Adolescents and Youth Friendly Services in Kano State, Nigeria

Adolescents and young people represent a significant and growing proportion of Nigeria’s population, with unique health and development needs. In Kano State, where cultural, social, and systemic challenges often influence access to healthcare, it is critical that services particularly for those living with HIV are responsive, inclusive, and adolescent-friendly.

This training manual is developed to support the capacity building of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) officers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to deliver services that are respectful, confidential, and tailored to the realities of young people. Grounded in the National Training Manual for the Health and Development of Adolescents and Young People in Nigeria and enriched with global best practices and standards on adolescent and youth-friendly services, this resource reflects our shared commitment to quality care and equity.

By adapting national and international guidelines to the context of Kano State, this manual serves as a practical tool to ensure that adolescents and young people, especially those living with HIV receive comprehensive, age-appropriate, and stigma-free support. We believe this investment in human capacity will significantly contribute to improving health outcomes and fostering trust in healthcare systems among young populations.

We commend the efforts of all stakeholders who contributed to the development of this manual and encourage ART officers to apply its content with empathy, professionalism, and a strong sense of purpose.
