RAHAMA Participates in Joint SEAR-WPR Workshop to Accelerate Implementation of WHO TB Policies in Hanoi, Viet Nam

RAHAMA is proud to have participated in the recent
joint South-East Asia Region (SEAR) and Western Pacific Region (WPR) workshop focused on accelerating the implementation of new WHO tuberculosis (TB) policies, as part of the ASCENT Drug-Resistant TB (DR-TB) Project.

Held under the auspices of the  Unitaid, KNCV, World Health Organization (WHO) and The Global Fund, the workshop brought together national TB programs, civil society organizations, technical partners, and donors from across the SEAR and WPR regions to strategize on scaling up implementation of TB policies in alignment with WHO's latest guidelines.

As part of the civil society breakout sessions, organised and supported by Treatment Action Group (TAG) and KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, RAHAMA led discussions on the power of traditional and new media to drive awareness, shape public discourse, and increase access to shorter oral DR-TB regimens—especially for marginalized populations.

During the session, RAHAMA shared practical lessons from its work in Nigeria, including:

  • How community radio and TV and other traditional media such as posters have been used to dispel myths and stigma around TB and promote treatment-seeking behavior.

  • Leveraging social media campaigns such as TikTok tailored to amplify messaging on DR-TB and TB.

  • The importance of collaborating with social media influencers and health advocates to translate technical messages that resonate with everyday people.

Looking Ahead

As countries move toward ambitious TB targets, including those set at the
UN High-Level Meeting on TB, it is vital that civil society organizations like RAHAMA remain at the forefront of advocacy and implementation. We are committed to ensuring that no one falls through the cracks in the fight against TB.

We thank WHO, the ASCENT Consortium including Treatment Action Group (TAG), and our regional partners for the opportunity to contribute to this pivotal conversation and for the ongoing collaboration in pursuit of a TB-free future.

Together, we move forward—faster, smarter, and more united than ever.
