Decentralizing Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis Treatment in Kano State Nigeria

In our ongoing effort to empower healthcare workers in the fight against Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB),  RAHAMA Initiative hosted a highly impactful capacity-building for healthcare workers and tuberculosis supervisors in Kano State. Supported by @treatmentactiongroup through the ASCENT DR-TB Project, the three-day training brought together healthcare professionals and key stakeholders from eight local government areas across Kano as we work together to develop effective strategies to combat DR-TB. The training provided a platform for vital discussions and resources aimed at strengthening healthcare workers’ knowledge and skills in managing DR-TB, improving access to shorter DR TB regimens, patient centered care, all while striving toward our goal of eliminating tuberculosis by 2030.  Together, we are one step closer to a TB-free future. Desk Review for the ASCENT DR-TB Project

Today, Rahama Girl Child And Women Empowerment Initiative supported the desk review of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Program and the WHO Guidelines on Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis at the Kano State TB Situation Room with the Kano State TBLCP and Partners.  This initiative forms part of the Ascent DR TB Project, supported by Treatment Action Group (TAG) , it aims to improve access to shorter, safer and more effective drug resistant treatment regimens through community led approach and policy advocacy.  As we strive to eradicate TB by 2030, the Project will support the TBLCP in creating awareness, strengthen the capacity of healthcare workers and advocate for the scale up BPaL/M regimen in Nigeria. #endtbnow #RahamaAtWork

The World Conference on Lung Health was no doubt an eye opener, providing valuable insights to guide our mission to impact our communities by promoting  lung health and tackling respiratory  diseases  like Tuberculosis. Some key takeaways for us at the Conference include; Collaborative Community Approach is crucial : Tackling lung diseases should involve healthcare providers, policymakers, and communities for sustainable impact. Innovative Solution Accelerates Progress : We cannot keep relying on old strategies to solve health issues. Thus, we must strengthen our health systems with affordable and scalable solutions to fighting respiratory diseases cannot be overstated with special  focus on Low and Medium Income Countries like Nigeria. Tuberculosis remains among the top deadliest diseases in the world. This is more reason why  prevention is always more effective than cure. We're having an incredibly impactful experience at the World Conference on Lung Health, where we've joined some of the brightest minds, passionate advocates, and dedicated health professionals from around the world to confront the pressing challenges of tuberculosis and other lung diseases. Throughout the event, we've had the opportunity to engage with #IMPACT4TB Partners and other key stakeholders, reviewing progress on TB interventions and exploring new opportunities, insights, and collaborations to strengthen and accelerate the #ENDTB2030 strategy. #unionconf #theunion

Requirement Gathering Workshop- AYP Project

Yesterday, Rahama Girl Child And Women Empowerment Initiative held a requirement gathering workshop for the Adolescents and Young Persons Project in Kano State. Since inception, the #AYP project aimed to enhance community-led monitoring and virtual space engagement for HIV services among Adolescent and Young People (AYP) in the State. The discussions revolved around reviewing the baseline assessment, community led monitoring forms and the CLM dashboard that is expected to be deployed in the coming months.  During the workshop, the Director General of Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA) highlighted the need for localized approach and the use of local language to the intervention.
